Afrontamos una nueva campaña de colza este año que se presenta con “viento a favor”. ¿Las abundantes lluvias caídas en septiembre por toda Castilla y León, cómo pueden favorecer la campaña de colza?
Un aspecto fundamental en cualquier cultivo y especialmente en la colza, es la preparación del terreno y la humedad disponible en el suelo en el momento de la siembra. Es por esto, que estamos ante un año que inicialmente, parece haber empezado bien para la colza.
Además, esta humedad nos posibilitará poner en muchos casos, la semilla en terreno con tempero, también en siembra directa, y si la climatología nos acompaña en lo que queda de septiembre y octubre, podremos tener una buena implantación del cultivo que es un momento clave para el cultivo de la colza.
A la hora de afrontar la sementera libre de malas hierbas. ¿Qué recomendaciones a nivel fitosanitario recomiendan?
Con lo que ha llovido, normalmente tendremos un rebrote importante del cultivo anterior y en muchos casos, especialmente en siembra directa será imprescindible la aplicación de un herbicida total en pre-siembra.
Dentro del cultivo de la colza, tenemos un amplio abanico de posibilidades en lo que a tratamientos herbicidas se refiere, tanto en pre como en post-emergencia, por lo que la mejor recomendación se la realizará al agricultor, su técnico proveedor de productos fitosanitarios, que es quien mejor conoce la flora dominante en su zona.
Si me preguntas por, en base a nuestra experiencia, ¿en qué incidirías?. «Creemos que es muy importante, no retrasar en exceso el control de las malas hierbas de hoja estrecha, «esperando a que nazca todo», frase está muy común entre los agricultores, para decidirse a la hora de hacer el tratamiento herbicida. La experiencia nos dice que un control temprano, permite a la colza no ralentizar su desarrollo por competencia de la mala hierba y llegar más fuerte y desarrollada a la parada invernal, significando esto un mayor vigor y una mejor ramificación de la planta y por tanto un mayor potencial de rendimiento».
La colza es un cultivo demandante de fertilización tanto para secano como para regadío. ¿Qué recomendación en este aspecto harían al futuro cultivador de colza?
Además de los elementos ternarios (N-P-K), la colza, como crucífera que es, valora especialmente el azufre, debiendo tenerlo siempre en cuenta el cultivador de colza, aunque no haya apreciado carencias en el cultivo en los años anteriores.
Por norma, se recomienda la aplicación de 75 Unidades de azufre, a nivel de cultivo.
En las parcelas de alto potencial y regadíos estamos viendo un buen comportamiento, cuando fraccionamos la aplicación del nitrógeno de cobertera en dos o tres aplicaciones diferidas, consiguiendo así una disponibilidad continuada y mantenida en el tiempo, llegando así en muchos casos hasta el final del ciclo del cultivo.
Estamos viendo a la vez, que en ocasiones puede ser interesante la aportación de Boro y de Molibdeno.
Dentro de la rotación de cultivos dónde encaja mejor la colza. ¿Qué cultivo anterior y posterior es el ideal?
La colza es un cultivo que se adapta a la mayoría de las explotaciones castellano y leonesas y por tanto responde adecuadamente detrás de casi todos los cultivos.
No obstante, si pensamos en la colza como un cultivo de gran desarrollo radicular y por tanto que una buena estructura y preparación del suelo, le ayudara, parece claro que un precedente como una patata o un barbecho pueden ser buenos para la colza, aunque Uds. me dirán que son buenos para cualquier cultivo.
Esto que para muchos parecerá una obviedad, es una de las explicaciones por la que para muchos agricultores, la colza es “su cabeza o inicio de rotación”, en el caso del barbecho en secano.
Si pensamos en la colza como una planta que valora positivamente la disponibilidad de nitrógeno, cualquier precedente que le proporcione un extra de este elemento, por ejemplo, leguminosas, proteaginosas… serán muy buenos precedentes.
Un precedente de cereal, especialmente este año, en el que gran parte de la paja de los cereales se ha recogido, en el que las lluvias posibilitaran en la mayoría de los casos, buenas preparaciones del terreno y siempre que estemos atentos a los herbicidas precedentes aplicados en el cereal, podría ser una buena opción a valorar y por tanto, adecuada a la mayoría de la superficie de nuestra comunidad autónoma.
Y si me preguntas, que cultivo puedo sembrar detrás de una colza, te diría que la colza mejora la estructura del suelo, sube nutrientes de capas profundas, rompe el ciclo de muchas plagas y enfermedades…. te recomendaría entre otras opciones sembrar un cereal después de una colza.
